“ This is a 7 mile walk, 3.5 miles each way. It is easy to moderate walking and will be muddy when wet. Take a picnic and wear good walking shoes or boots. There are extension walks of about 2 miles(1 each way) at each end of it if you have the energy. A bus service exists if you want to walk one way and ride the other. ”
Stallion Valley Holiday Cottages Advice
Walking the Ceredigion Coastal path, West Wales. : Llannon to Aberarth
Holiday cottage owners Mick & Julie's New Year's resolution was to walk the 60 mile long Ceredigion Coastal path in sections during 2013. The idea is to be able to advise holiday cottage guests how best to enjoy coastal walking holidays from Stallion Valley holiday cottages and to make regular entries on The Stallion Valley holiday cottage blog.
On Tuesday 2nd April 2013 we tackled the 3.5 mile section from Llannon to Aberarth, two small coastal villages on the A487 Cardigan to Aberystwyth road. We parked in Llannon village, the car park adjacent to the church, off the main road on the cost side. The weather was dry, sunny and cold, so we set off wrapped up warm.
From the car park the coastal path signs were confusing and we ended up walking down to the beach and turned left heading south towards Aberaeron. The beach was tough walking over cobbles and may be the better option would have been to use the paths across the fields in order to avoid this section.
At the end of the cobble beach we came to a small car park adjacent to the beach, near a hotel, at the end of a dead end road from the main A487 passing a caravan park. In hindsight this would have been the ideal place to park.
From here the path lead through flat fields adjacent to the low cliffs for about a mile of easy walking. The path then climbs as the cliffs rise and provides wonderful views back across Cardigan Bay to Llannon with its square church tower, and beyond to Lannrhysud, Aberystwyth and Snowdonia in the distance.
The weather was wonderful; West Wales at its spring time best, the sun and the gentle climb warmed us up. After a while the path leveled off and southerly views of Cardigan Bay opened up down to Aberarth, Aberaeron and beyond to New Quay.
