Talley Village Carmarthenshire

Talley is a small beautiful village in a wonderful setting and perhaps deceptively has lots of interest.

Perhaps most striking are the ruins of the monastery dating back to 1185.

The abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII much of the stone was used to build the present village and the chapel next to the abbey.

There are two lakes near the abbey ruins, which were used for fish farming to support the community of monks. Today they are a nature reserve managed by The Wildlife trust of South & West Wales.

Between the two lakes the neck of land contains a mound which is a Norman motte castle.

Above the village are Talley Woodlands. The forest and mountain walks are on land managed by the village committee. A series of walks with extensive views best enjoyed sitting on the picnic bench at the top.
