Colby Woodland Garden a beautiful woodland garden and a fun place to be

Set in a tranquil secret valley this hidden woodland garden with a rich industrial past is full of surprises. In the summer the café and craft gallery are open.

The combination of walled garden and informal woodland has something for everyone. Enjoy tranquil woodland walks with carpets of spring flowers and relax in the walled garden.

The Walled Garden, was originally a kitchen garden, and was semi-derelict in the 1970s. Now it is a formal garden with herbaceous planting as well as shrubs and some unusual trees.

The Woodland Garden is an informal woodland garden in a sheltered valley. It extends over some eight acres although the National Trust estate is much larger. The estate stretches from Amroth on the coast up to the main A477 road to the north.

Rhododendrons are Colby's speciality, the soil is acid so we can grow rhododendrons, camellias, magnolias and Japanese maples. We have a fine collection of large leaved rhododendrons which are found beside the newt pond and Old Oak corner.

There's a wide variety of specimen trees in the garden and we have a Champion Tree. This is a Japanese Redwood which is adjacent to the newt pond. It's 134 feet tall and it's the tallest tree of its kind in the UK.

Climb to the Summer House, and on a clear day enjoy views across Carmarthen Bay to Worms Head in the distance.

Explore the meadow with its lovely stream, stepping stones, log bridge and abundant dragonflies and butterflies.
