The Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cardigan

Aside from birds, insects and reptiles there are water buffalo grazing the marshes and otters, best viewed at dawn and dusk. There are also resident badgers, real and sculpted!

Birdwatching in West Wales: Starlings Aberystwyth

Thousands of starlings roost for the night under Aberystwyth pier. They spend their day foraging in rural Ceredigion, West Wales and return to Aberystwyth in their thousands providing an aerobatic display prior to sunset.

Folly Farm celebrating daughter Sally's 30th

We had a really nice day out yesterday at Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire an interesting zoo, with lots of outdoor play for the kids, a big wheel, diggers, and indoor activities including a vintage fun fair for cold and wet days.

Mill holiday cottage guest book - today

West Wales beach sunset

A beautiful cold and sunny day here in West Wales. We and our holiday cottage guests enjoyed a trip to our nearby beaches. We headed to Penbryn Beach, dog friendly off season, to catch the sunset.

Mountains, kites and lakes: Day out

Our destination was Rhyader via the Ystwyth Valley to the second of our local Red Kite feeding stations (Gilgrin Farm) and back via the Elan Valley reservoirs.

Plan B, a bonus walk in Wales

The woods were closed for logging so plan A was off! On the drive home we decided plan B had worked out pretty well. We had enjoyed a great walk and a bonus, shopping done for the week!

Sunny West Wales today: Cenarth Falls

Whilst crossing the bridge over the Teifi River at Cenarth I was attracted by the big waves and stopped to take some photos. It was beautiful down by the river in this attractive village.

Red kite sunset: holiday cottages Wales

Our 2 dogs had a great off lead walk whist I marvelled at the kites overhead, the red tinge of the setting evening sun, peace and quiet only broken by the eerie red kite calls. .

Sunny Friday in Wales beach walking

Penbryn Beach is a favourite because there is a great walk down through the woods to it, and the other big plus is that, out of season, it is a dog friendly beach, so Charlie and Hamish were able to enjoy it as well!

Oct 14 half term: holiday cottage guest book

Welsh sayings for beginners: No. 1 Malu Cachu

This one is pronounced: - Ma lee Ca key. I checked the literal translation of this one and it is a little "earthy" Malu is to grind but Cachu is brown and smelly, so the saying is not very polite!
